The leopard and the lioness
We were watching Mafufunyana, one of the male leopards enjoying his impala kill up in a tree, when one of the Stix pride lionesses walked by. She noticed Mafufunyana in the tree and decided that the impala would be such an easy meal. She chased Mafufunyana out of the tree and proceeded to climb up. The kill was logged into one of the smaller branches and after trying to reach it for about 10 minutes she gave up, climbed down the tree and disappeared into the bush. A ridiculously easy meal so near, and yet so far…

We were following the Sandy Patch lioness and her cub walking down the fire break when all of a sudden she started running at full speed. She disappeared around a termite mound and when the dust settled re-emerged with a dwarf mongoose in her mouth. She gave the appetizer to her cub, along with the lesson that in the wild, you should always be ready when an opportunity presents itself.
King of the Castle
The eight Tsalala pride cubs became restless as the temperatures started dropping and dusk settled in. They started climbing a Marula Tree. Once up in the tree each one tried their best to throw the other brothers and sisters off and it soon became a game of “King of the Castle.” This went on for a couple of minutes until the females decided enough is enough, called them down and proceeded walking towards the water for a drink. |
