Big 5 Sightings 17 – 23 December 2012

The Big 5 highlight of the week was to see Salayexe’s six month old cub killing her first juvenile grey duiker. For a six month old cub this is a big step as leopard cubs will normally only kill live prey at around 9-10 months of age

  • Two buffalo bulls feeding on the Northern side of Shirley’s open area
  • Eleven wild dogs moving South over our southern boundary
  • Salayexe, the female leopard and her cub, feeding on a duiker kill around 16th Crossing Road

  • Three older Tsalala lionesses with the two sub-adult female cubs, resting on EP open area and four hyenas moving around them
  • Salayexe, the female leopard, walking north on Madash Road
  • A breeding herd of about twenty five elephants feeding on Gowrie Main
  • Three buffalo bulls resting on Eastern Bank Manyeleti

  • The three older Tsalala lionesses and the two sub adult female cubs resting on Sixes Road
  • A breeding herd of about ten elephants feeding on Rhino Ring North
  • One buffalo bull resting in the water at Kraaines
  • Tingana, the male leopard, moving south on Saseka Road
  • Another breeding herd of about fifteen elephants feeding on Shirley’s open area

  • A breeding herd of about seven elephants feeding on Mamba Road
  • Salayexe, the female leopard, resting on Xinzele Road
  • A sub adult Nkuhuma male lion resting on EP Old Driveway
