Big 5 Sightings – 12-18 November 2012

The Big 5 highlight of the week was seeing an elephant cow with two small calves, estimated to be about two weeks old. It is not very common for elephants to give birth to twins, therefore this was something very special to see.

  • Four Tsalala breakaway lionesses still on the waterbuck kill on A-main
  • Six buffalo bulls just south of Zimba bridge.
  • A breeding herd of about 30 elephants feeding on A-main, east of Sixes Road
  • Tingana, the male leopard, stalking impalas close to Wetpatch open area
  • Three buffalo bulls resting in the water at Serengeti Pan

  • Three elephant bulls feeding on Marula Bult North
  • Three buffalo bulls feeding on the northern side of Serengeti Manyeleti Crossing
  • One elephant bull feeding on Nyati Bamba Road
  • Four Tsalala breakaway lionesses resting on the southern side of Shirley’s open area
  • Another elephant bull feeding on the southern side of Safari airstrip

  • Four Styx lionesses and the four sub-adult cubs resting on Chitwa Chitwa open area
  • A pack of 12 wild dogs with an impala kill on Safari driveway, west of the airstrip

  • BB the lioness and one of her daughters with the two sub-adult female cubs resting on Big Dam wall
  • A breeding herd of about 10 elephants feeding on Kuala Bear Road
  • Five buffalo bulls rolling in the mud at Serengeti Pan
  • Kwatile, the female leopard, scent marking on Seepline, east of Big Dam Link North
  • Two buffalo bulls resting in the water on EP open area
  • Five buffalo bulls feeding north of Serengeti Manyeleti Crossing
  • Another breeding herd of about 15 elephants feeding close to Leeukuil
  • Salayexe, the female leopard, and her cub with a juvenile impala kill on Mfezi open area

  • A breeding herd of about 15 elephants feeding on Rocky Road
  • One lioness and three cubs of the Styx pride resting at Ingwe Pan
  • Salayexe, the female leopard and her cub, with three juvenile impala kills north of Marula Bult South.
  • Another breeding herd of about 40 elephants drinking water at Leeukuil
